What support will we give to you as a parent of a child with SEND?

The class teacher is available at the end of the school day to discuss any immediate concerns that you may have. If you require a more in-depth discussion of your child’s progress or any concerns, you will need to arrange a meeting with the teacher. Information can be shared about what is working well at home and school, so that similar strategies can be used. If it would be helpful, the SENDCo may also be present at the meeting.

  • The SENDCo and Headteacher are able to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress or any concerns/worries you may have. (You can either make direct contact or do so via the school administrator.)

  • All information from outside professionals will be discussed with you, or where this is not possible, in a report.

  • Personal progress targets on EHCPs, SMART Plans, or Right For Children targets will usually be reviewed with your involvement termly, or  if more appropriate, after a shorter (half termly) or longer (6 monthly) time-scale.

  • Homework will be adjusted as needed to your child’s individual requirements.

  • A home-school contact book may be used.

  • You may be put in contact with other professionals who can support you outside of school e.g. Devon Information, Advice and Support for SEND, (DIASS).
