How will we support your child’s social and emotional development?

At Whimple School we understand that some children have additional social, emotional and mental health difficulties that need to be recognised. These difficulties can manifest themselves in a number of ways, including behavioural difficulties, anxiety, and being uncommunicative.

All classes follow a PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) curriculum to support this development. However, for those children who find aspects of this difficult we offer:

  • Access to counselling services via the school nurse.

  • Activities/strategies to support social and emotional development.

  • 1 to 1 time with a nominated member of staff to help support individual needs.

  • Implementation of strategies suggested by outside agencies such as Social, Emotional and Mental Health Team.

  • Small group social activities.

  • Whole-school incentives to raise awareness of particular issues e.g. Anti-Bullying Week.
